A little about Chater's.
Tucked away on Church Street, Chater's is an independent all-day bakery, café and restaurant that changes character as the day goes on.
Mornings start with Wood Street coffee from the local roastery, a range of teas and a counter of sweet and savoury treats, many baked in house. From lunchtime the kitchen takes over, with pasta made on the premises, sharing plates and a drinks list built around small growers and aperitivo.
In the evening Chater's becomes an aperitivo bar, with natural wines by the glass and drinks made with Vault Aperitivo spirits, distilled right here on site. The seasonal menu of small plates, fresh pasta and Italian-inspired desserts such as tiramisu is made for sharing with friends, using ingredients from local suppliers.
The quality hasn't gone unnoticed. In 2026 Chater's was named in the Good Food Guide's list of the top 100 restaurants in the UK. There's also a private dining room for groups and celebrations.
