A little about The Courtyard.
The Courtyard is a Tiptree Tea Room, run by the Essex jam makers Wilkin & Sons, and sits in Rose and Crown Walk just off the main square in Saffron Walden. It's a bright and airy traditional tea room, and on warmer days you can sit outside in the sun-trap courtyard, away from the traffic.
The menu covers full breakfasts, a range of light lunches and the tea room's much-loved Little Scarlet cream teas, with a glass of bubbly if you fancy it. There's a daily specials board featuring handmade dishes and regular favourites such as ham, egg and chunky chips, with gluten free and vegetarian options available. You can also pick up Tiptree preserves to take home.
It's the perfect place for a break between the shops and the market, and The Common is just a short stroll away through Rose and Crown Walk. The tea room is now dog friendly too, so four-legged visitors are welcome.
Afternoon tea bookings are taken for Sundays, and phoning is the best way to book. On other days, just pop in.
