The Old English Gentleman, known locally as the OEG, is a characterful historic pub tucked away on Gold Street, a short walk from the Market Square yet away from the bustle of the main streets.
At its heart is a traditional main bar, which opens out into a spacious area with plenty of room for larger groups. It works just as well for a relaxed lunch as it does for drinks with friends in the evening. On colder days you'll find log fires and a wood-burning stove, while in warmer weather there's a heated patio and a small sun-trap garden at the rear.
The pub is Cask Marque accredited and serves a regular cask ale alongside changing guest beers. The food menu covers everything from light bites and sandwiches to classic pub dishes, and it changes regularly. On Sundays there are traditional roasts and chef's specials, served in the bar or dining area. Look out too for the artwork on display around the pub.
