A little about The Plant Pantry.
The Plant Pantry is Saffron Walden's independent houseplant shop, a green oasis on George Street that opened in October 2024. It was founded by a former NHS nurse, whose lifelong love of plants began during a childhood spent in the tropical rainforests of Borneo.
The shop stocks a wide range of houseplants, along with thoughtfully chosen pots and plant accessories. Sustainability is at its heart, with peat-free plants sourced from the UK wherever possible. Every plant comes with guidance on light, watering and care, and the focus is on helping you choose plants that will actually thrive in your home. Bring along photos of your space if you'd like some tailored advice.
A unique feature is the Plant Hospital, where the founder's nursing background is put to good use nursing struggling plants back to health. You can bring a poorly plant in, or send photos and a description for help diagnosing the problem. Home visits can also be booked.
The Plant Pantry runs a range of workshops too, including Terrarium and Tipple evenings for adults and Pot and Mix Cacti sessions for children. There's even a quiet reading corner where little ones can relax with a book while you browse.
Plants are sold in store only, as choosing the right plant is all about getting it right in person.
