A little about The Splatter Room.
The Splatter Room is a unique paint-splattering experience just a short walk from the centre of Saffron Walden, where creativity comes first and staying clean is definitely optional. Run by local art studio Effy the Artist, it recently moved to bigger premises on Gold Street, with larger canvases, customer toilets and refreshments on site.
Each session gives you a blank canvas, plenty of paint and a range of fun tools, from brushes to squirt guns, so you can let off steam and create your own abstract masterpiece. There's no pressure and no judgement, just the joy of making a colourful mess without ruining your kitchen walls. All the protective clothing you need is provided, including ponchos, shoe covers and goggles.
Sessions are available for adults and children aged eight and over, and there are Mini Messy sessions for younger children aged five and up, where a parent can join them in the room to help. Private sessions can be arranged for parties, celebrations and groups, and Effy the Artist also runs paint and sip nights for anyone who fancies a more relaxed creative evening.
Advance booking is recommended. A few tips before you go: dress for mess, as the acrylic paint can stain clothing, false nails and bleached hair. Closed-lid, non-breakable drinks are fine, but food isn't allowed in the studio. There's no dedicated parking, but the Waitrose, Common and Swan Meadow car parks are all close by.
