Zafferano Lounge is an informal neighbourhood café bar in a former banking hall on Market Street, serving food and drink all day, every day. The name is a nod to the town's history, as zafferano means saffron in Italian, recalling Saffron Walden's golden past as a major saffron-growing centre.
The menu runs from breakfast and brunch through to burgers, fish and chips, salads, Buddha bowls and more, with a cocktail list that's well worth a look in the evening. Everyone is catered for, with dedicated menus for gluten free and vegan diners, as well as for younger guests, known as Little Loungers.
The atmosphere is warm and community-focused, and everyone is welcome, including four-legged friends, who can even enjoy refreshments of their own. There are board games and regular events for guests of all ages, toys for the little ones, and daily deals to look out for. You can order from your table, and free Wi-Fi is available too.
