Nick Crane visited Saffron Walden for his BBC2 series "Town". It's not the first time Saffron Walden has played a part on TV and Film, Lovejoy was filmed in and around the Town and neighbouring Villages, more recently Bill Nighy filmed BBC film "Page Eight" and the town is popular with antiques programmes due to the large number of antique shops and dealers.
You can see a clip from the TV series below, Nick's show documented some of the fascinating and historical influence of Saffron Walden, noting the origins of Barclays Bank, the rather elaborate development of Audley End House and some of the interesting crafts unique to this region such as pargetting ("arty plastering"), brewing (for which Saffron Walden has a long history) and the cultivation of the Saffron spice crop from where the town got it's current name.
